Our wonderful Dr. Gutierrez, or otherwise known as “Dr. G” was born and bred in the North Valley of Albuquerque and she has never dreamed of being anything else but a veterinarian. She graduated from UNM with a BA-Biochemistry, and then proceeded to pursue her passion at Colorado State University for her doctorate in veterinary medicine. In 2014, she returned to CSU to become a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist. Dr. G takes special interest in surgery and exotics pets. She and her Partner have been together for the last 20 years and live happily with their many dogs (mostly rescued on the job) that fill their house with so much joy!
Dr. Emily M. Johnson was raised primarily in west Texas and has been actively involved in western performance horses her whole life. This involvement led to a passion for equine lameness and rehabilitation while working with multiple veterinarians in New Mexico and Texas prior to veterinary school. She received her Bachelor’s of Science in Biology & Chemistry with a minor in Biochemistry from New Mexico State University in 2013. She then attended Colorado State University for her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine as a large animal tracker, with a primary focus on equine lameness and surgery. Upon graduation she received the American College of Veterinary Surgeons student surgery award for excellence in large animal surgery. Following graduation from Colorado State University in 2017, she completed an equine internship at Elgin Veterinary Hospital in Elgin, TX. During that internship, she focused on racehorse and western performance horse work, along with general medicine of the equine athlete. She joined Kennedy Equine in 2019 as an equine ambulatory veterinarian. Her ambulatory practice includes racetrack medicine as well as western performance horse medicine and rehabilitation. Her professional interests include equine lameness and performance, diagnostic imaging, and rehabilitation of the high-level equine athlete. She also enjoys spending time outdoors with her dog, Gunner, who you will commonly see riding around in her vet truck.
Dr. Nick Kennedy was born and raised in New Mexico and earned degrees from UNM and NMSU. After attending veterinary school at Kansas State University, he did an equine internship in San Antonio, Texas before moving back to NM in 2014. Since then he has worked around the state as an equine veterinarian and also worked for a few years at a small animal clinic in Albuquerque. He has lived in Los Lunas since 2017 and was very excited about the chance to purchase this clinic in his home town. Dr. Kennedy really enjoys educating clients about the benefits of preventive medicine and performing soft tissue surgery. When not in the clinic he is likely working on horses or hopefully finding some time to get away up to the mountains with his favorite cat, Thatcher, where they both feel most at home.
